Let's try something new...

This semester was quite different, compared to the first one, because it gave us a chance to learn many different specialisms and we had the right to choose which specialism we wanted to discover... When I think about it, I realise that it is such a good opportunity to discover our true interests when it comes to writing. Am I more of a graphic artist, a video game writer or a poet, deep inside my heart? To be honest, I never thought I would ever be able to write poetry, or at least to try writing an experimental form of poetry. This semester was the perfect occasion for me to challenge myself on a new kind of writing.

Life is all about challenges. Challenges allows us to discover, to grow and thus to learn… Even if a challenge ends with a major fail, at least we tried our best to succeed. It’s all that matters.

Writing asks the writer to try, over and over again, to try harder and harder, every day… Life is an eternal lesson we learn every day, and the life of a writer is a life of challenges.

As a writer, I finally understand that keeping writing allows me to always improve my style. I’m only 23 years old… How can I say of myself that I am an accomplished writer?

I just can’t.

Because Writing is Feeling. When we write, either a novel, a short story or a poem, we take inspiration from an experience we have had, a situation we have been confronted with. In most cases, our own life is our first inspirational source. We find the substance of a story, mostly, in our emotions, our feelings, and this existence which is ours... In other words, we are all characters in a story. The main character in our own lives.

This semester learned me about poetry, about the graphic novel, and about video games.

If I had to remember only one thing it would be this:

The only way to discover what we really like, it’s Experiencing.

When we experience different things, when we try different activities, we realise that we really like some of them when others don't suit us after all.

During this semester, I had the occasion to try writing video games, drawing visuals for a graphic novel and experimenting with poetry. Such different activities that require such different skills and talents. I discovered the other side of a video game; the way it is imagined, written and then edited. I learned how to understand the meaning of an image, its importance and the fact that it can, on its own, tell a story. Sometimes images can speak for themselves and don't always need words to exist. Then, I tried experimental poetry...
