Writing Fantasy... What does that mean?

When it comes to fantasy, you can easily choose between two kinds of stories:

- If you want to create your own universe, with your own rules, you’re going to make a whole different world that will be completely yours.

- But, you can also choose to add fantasy to the world you’re living in. That’s what we usually called "Urban Fantasy"... Urban Fantasy takes place in the world we know but the only difference with Realism is the fact that Urban Fantasy allows supernatural elements to appear in this world.

To be honest, I thought a lot about the story I wanted to write. When I was younger, I loved reading fantasy. Harry Potter was my first book crush. Fantasy was, for me, a way to dream and to escape reality. When I was reading fantasy I used to lose myself into the story, into this magical universe described throughout the pages...

Today, even if I sill enjoys reading it, I realise that fantasy isn’t the genre that best suits me. When I’m writing, I’m looking for clearness and credibility. I want the reader to be completely immersed in the story I write, and I learn from my own experience as a reader that to be completely immersed we need to stay realist and clear, at least a minimum... Then, when I learned what Urban Fantasy was, I realised that I could have a chance to add both realism and magic in my writing. I’ve always been that kind of person who truly believes that some elements, some phenomena in the universe, can’t be explained by sciences. I'm that kind of person who believes in magic... Not black magic, not spells or witches, I simply believe in the Magic of Life. I believe in the idea that every little thing around us is a creation...

As Shakespeare said, « All the world is a stage », if I could say one similar thing, it would be this one:

All the World is a Creation.

Every little thing has a reason to be, a purpose, and deserves to fulfil it no matter what...

We, all, have a purpose in life even if we’re still not aware of it...

That’s why I choose, today, to write Urban Fantasy for this creative piece. I don’t have to choose between realism and magic, as I can keep both with this specific genre.

Urban Fantasy is the way for me to write the story I really want to write.

A story I’m excited about.

A story that will narrate an adventure full of mystery, teachings, emotions,

with just a little bit of Magic...
